WP Syndicator Review
Having been one of the lucky ones to get an early edition of WP Syndicator, I have used it on all of my latest sites, and it is now the first plugin that I install every time I launch a new website.
As a big fan of the plugin, I thought it best to write an honest and detailed review for those that are thinking of purchasing WP Syndicator.

First of all I just want to go into why this plugin is so effective, and also an essential addition to any marketers tool box if you are serious about getting traffic to your sites and getting ranked in the search engines.
Building a website that is optimized for the search engines, and putting quality content on it is just half the battle. The other half is the off page work you have to do to get your site ranking high in the search engines so you get a steady flow of free traffic. This has to be done by advertizing your blog on sites that are already getting traffic and adding a link to them back to your site. When Google sees other sites link back to yours they increase its importance and move you further up the SERPs.
But building these backlinks and getting the word out and around the web about your site can be a very time consuming process, and in many cases can cost you a lot of money.
That is where WP Syndicator comes in and makes this laborious task as simple as clicking a on a link, that is it. It doesn’t matter whether you have an auto blog (works great with these actually) or a Blog that you update manually, WP Syndicator will take care of your backlinking on autopilot.
So let’s look into more detail as to what WPS actually does, and what you need to do to set it up.
WP Syndicator is a plugin, so it is simple to install. If you’re not sure how to install one then Andy has created a video to show you the installation process (it will take you two minutes).
The first thing to do is to go to your WP Syndicator settings in your admin panel (this will be on the left hand side near the bottom).
Click on the ‘Config’ link. This will open up the configuration page. As you can see, you need to sign up for an account with the link shrinker service, Bit.ly. Once you have done that you need to enter your username and API key. If you’re not sure where to get your API key, there is a video that shows you how. Just click on the “Sign up then go here” link and there is a video that shows you how.
On this page you can also set the plugin to auto syndicate for you. This will give you even less work to do as every time you publish a new post on your site, WPS will automatically syndicate it. This is perfect if you are using WPS for autoblogging. If you leave it unchecked, then you will have to syndicate any new post manually, but that just requires a couple of clicks of the mouse
The next step is to register to the Web 2.0 properties that WPS syndicates your content too. This is the only time consuming bit, as there are currently 15 properties to register for. This will take you about an hour, but the beauty of it is, is that when you install WPS on another site it remembers all of your settings so it only takes a few minutes on any subsequent installations.
Andy has made it as easy as possible for you to register with these sites, and has put a link next to each Web 2.0 property in the ‘Accounts’ section of the WPS admin panel.
Once you have registered for each one just check mark the ‘Enabled’ box and then click on the test button for each site to make sure your settings are ok. You will get a green check mark if they are ok, and a red explanation mark if they are not.
Now you are nearly done. If you have set WPS to syndicate automatically then all you need to do is publish you next post and it will syndicate for you. If you have the plugin set to manual, all you need to do after you have published your next post is go to your WPS admin panel and click on “Syndicate”. This page will also show any older posts that you can syndicate if you want.
Make sure the boxes are check marked for all of the sites you want to syndicate to. You can also enter the anchor text you want to use and the length of the syndication you want to post on each web 2.0 site.
Once you click on the “Syndicate” button, an excerpt of your content will be placed on the fifteen web 2.0 properties along with your backlink and anchor text that you chose.
What makes this so powerful is that this is all deep link backlinking, which Google loves to see. There is no point just building backlinks to your main URL, that just doesn’t look natural and Google will see that. But when you start linking back to individual posts and inner pages, that is when Google sees this as being a natural linking situation and will increase the importance of your site because of this.
Here are a couple of screen shots that show you the excerpt taken and posted to a couple of these web 2.0 properties. You can see the link with the anchor test, in this example I am showing it for this very site, so the anchor text is “WP Syndicator”. If you look at the bottom left of the screen shots you wee the actual URL that the link and anchor text is linking too. You see it isn’t the main URL, it is the URL for this particular post.
So not only are you building backlinks that will push your website further up the SERPs and get you free traffic from the search engines, but you will also get traffic coming directly from these very popular and high traffic web 2.0 sites.
Let’s look at the page rank for each of the web 2.0 properties included in WP Syndicator:
1. WordPress.com – Page Rank 9
2. TypePad.com – Page rank 8
3. Blogger.com – (PR kept private)
4. LiveJournal.com – Page Rank 8
5. Tumblr.com – Page Rank 8
6. Multiply.com – Page Rank 7
7. Plurk.com – Page Rank – 8
8. FriendFeed.com – Page Rank 8
9. Xanga.com – Page Rank 7
10. Identi.ca – (PR kept private)
11. YouAre.com – Page Rank 4
12. Blellow.com – Page Rank 4
13. BrightKite.com – Page Rank 6
14. Vox.com – Page Rank 7
15. Twitter.com – Page Rank 9
As you can see, all of these sites carry very high page rank and are highly trusted by Google and other search engines. So getting links from these properties back to your website can only benefit your rankings. Plus Andy Fletcher is continuously working on this plugin to improve it and make it more effective. Since I received my copy not long back, Andy has updated it a few times, and of course all future updates come free to all owners of the plugin, so once you purchase WP Syndicator you will receive all future upgrades for nothing. Andy has already said that he will be adding to this list of sites too, so the plugin will get more and more powerful and effective down the line.
Pros:
- Very easy to install and set up
- Can be set to syndicate automatically if you require it too. Perfect for autoblogging.
- Builds deep link backlinks to the inner pages of your websites, which Google loves.
- A great selection of high PR web 2.0 properties that your content gets syndicated too.
- The Creator of WPS, Andy Fletcher is always updating and improving the plugin, and as a customer you get all future upgrades for free.
- Will save you a lot of time and money building high quality backlinks to your sites.
- It works!
Cons:
- Although this is a very effective tool, it won’t be the final answer to all of your backlinking needs, not if you are going for competitive keywords anyway. If you have very little competition then this plugin alone will see you achieve high rankings, but if the competition is large then you will need to do more. But…as mentioned before, WPS is being upgraded and improved all the time and will only get more powerful as each upgrade comes out.
Verdict:
- For me, if you are using WordPress blogs and want to rely on SEO to get you free traffic, then this plugin is a MUST HAVE. It is an inspirational piece of software that works extremely well, and that coupled with the continued attention and development the creator puts into this make it a vital inclusion to any marketers business.
